Cleveland Fire Department
Serving Our Community with Honor Since 1942
Mission Statement
We are committed to providing a superior level of emergency service and continually improving the quality of life, health, and safety of the citizens of Cleveland.
Our Core Values
Serving with loyalty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and safety of all others.
About Us
The City of Cleveland Fire Department has and continues to proudly serve the citizens, businesses, and visitors of Cleveland and White County. Since 1942, we have remained dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment with professionalism and compassion.
Our department operates with a team of 22 full-time and part-time firefighters who provide 24-hour emergency coverage year-round. We are proud to hold a Class 3 ISO rating from the Insurance Services Office as of our most recent evaluation in 2023.
Over the last year, the Mayor and Council have made a substantial investment into the Fire Department. In August 2025, a new 10,000 square foot headquarters will be open off on East Underwood Street. In addition, the Department recently received a new Sutphen HS-7952 Ladder Truck. The two purchases alone will account for over $6.3 million, without any additional debt to the taxpayers of the City of Cleveland.
Even with the new Fire Station and equipment, our number one asset continues to be our people who work to keep our businesses and families safe.
Facilities and Equipment
We operate out of one central station located at Cleveland City Hall, which houses:
-
3 Fire Engines
-
1 Ladder Truck
-
1 State-Certified Rescue Unit
-
1 Officer's Rapid Response Vehicle
This equipment enables our department to effectively respond to a wide range of emergencies, including structure fires, rescues, and medical calls.
Training and Capabilities
All Cleveland firefighters hold First Responder certification or higher, with many also certified as EMTs. Our firefighters are trained to perform a broad scope of duties, such as:
-
Emergency medical response
-
Fire suppression and rescue operations
-
Community outreach and fire safety education
-
Apparatus maintenance and fire code inspection assistance
Our firefighters meet rigorous physical standards and are trained to operate under high-pressure, hazardous conditions—often while wearing full protective gear. They must possess the ability to think quickly, make independent decisions in emergencies, and maintain thorough knowledge of fire and rescue procedures.
Full-time and Part-time Firefighters
Our career and part-time members of our department play a vital role. Their responsibilities include:
-
Responding rapidly to emergency calls
-
Assisting with fire suppression and rescue operations
-
Participating in inspections and station duties
We welcome those with a heart for service and the discipline to meet the demands of emergency response.
Our Commitment
From our administrative team to our newest recruit, we are united in our mission to deliver exceptional emergency service and customer care when our community needs it most. The Cleveland Fire Department stands ready—honored to serve and proud to protect.
